HEALTH & FITNESS CENTER, GROUP EXERCISE CLASSES, PERSONAL TRAINING, & ORIENTATIONS...

Health & Fitness Center

Our air-conditioned fitness center is equipped with a selection of cardiovascular equipment including 4 Life Fitness Treadmills, 2 Life Fitness Cross Trainers, 2 Precor Elliptical Trainers, 4 Recumbent and 2 Upright Life Fitness Bicycles, 2 Stairmaster Freerunners, a Life Fitness Stair Stepper and 4 Concept2 Rowers.  Strength training equipment includes Magnum and Body Masters weight machines for an all-muscle workout, a Cable Crossover, Smith Machine, full set of dumbbells, incline benches, mirrors and more.  This room is not open to children 12 years and under.  Children ages 13-15 must be accompanied by an adult or have passed an orientation with a trainer.

 

Free Orientation for New Members

Have a member of the fitness staff demonstrate how to use the cardiovascular and strength training equipment correctly.  Please see the front desk for an orientation schedule.

 

Aerobic Studio

Our aerobic and dance studio has a mondo-athletic floor, state-of-the-art sound system, mirrors and air-conditioning.

 

AEROBIC CLASSES

All classes include warm-up and cool down/stretch to prevent possible injuries and ensure a safer workout.  Aerobic classes operate on a calendar month basis and are unlimited for a once a month charge.  You must register at the front desk.  Classes must have a minimum of 3 participants to run.  If the consistent class attendance is 5 or less, the class is subject to cancellation.  Schedules are subject to change and will be posted.

Body Fit

Upbeat step aerobics, high intensity floor aerobics and strengthening-work using the bands, weights and balls compose this workout.

Days & Times:     Monday & Wednesday     5:45-6:45 p.m.

 

Cardio Plus

A fun, low impact workout designed to increase metabolism and improve strength and flexibility.

Days & Times:     Tuesday & Thursday     9:00-10:00 a.m.

 

Fit-n-Fun

A different class each time with the same fun!  Challenge yourself with cardiovascular interval training, toning and floor work.  Classes incorporate weights, steps, bands or stability ball to build endurance and strength.

Days & Times:     Tuesday & Thursday     5:45-6:45 p.m.

 

Total Fitness

Increase your metabolism with this combination of aerobics and strengthening exercises.  Workout includes step and floor aerobics combined with mobility training and core stabilization using hand weights, exercise balls and bands.

Days & Times:     Monday/Wednesday/Friday     8:45-9:45 a.m.

 

FITNESS CLASSES

 

Active Older Adults

Created especially for seniors and beginners.  This class begins with easy to follow, light intensity cardiovascular warm-up.  Thirty minutes of muscle toning and flexibility exercises are included to help improve or maintain ability to perform daily living activities.  All exercises can be done using a chair, if needed.  Arthritis Foundation Guidelines are followed.

Fit-n-Flex

Hour long class is a great mix of muscular flexibility, balance and coordination exercises.  Pilates exercises are emphasized.  As a participant of this class, the Yoga class on Tuesday/Thursday is complimentary!

Teen Conditioning

This fitness program, offered to teens 13-17, concentrates on increasing strength, endurance and building more athletic power.  Instruction will include proper warm up, body form and technique.

Women's Fitness Training

Learn new ideas on becoming more physically fit!  Fitness instruction includes proper warm up, use of cardiovascular and resistance machines and proper form and technique.  Help design your own exercise program to meet specific needs.  Call our front desk at 410-957-9622 for dates and times.

 

Walk for Fitness - Free for Members!

The Lower Shore Family YMCA's gymnasium is open for walkers on weekday mornings from 6:00-9:00 a.m. from September through May.  12 laps around the gym equals one mile.  Walk indoors during bad weather and stay healthy and fit.  Bring a friend!  Our outdoor trail is now open for walking and running.  Come try it!  It winds through the woods and around our lake behind the facility.

 

Personal Training

Let a YMCA certified personal trainer teach you how to get the most out of your workouts.  Work one-on-one or bring a few friends and we'll help you reach your fitness goals.  You'll learn various exercises that build strength and endurance, reduce your body fat and improve over-all cardiovascular fitness.  Training is offered in 1-hour sessions to YMCA Members and made available by appointment only through Mary Brad Kelley.

Fitness By Design

Let a YMCA certified personal trainer set up the perfect workout plan for you.  Meet with a trainer for 2 half hour sessions and go step by step through a program set up especially for you and your fitness goals.  Please contact Mary Brad Kelley to arrange an appointment.

YMCA Pump N' Run Race

Looking for a twist on the "Traditional" 5K race?  Compete in the YMCA's Pump N' Run Race.  Each participant will compete in a Bench Press Competition and 5K Race.  The Bench Press Competitions will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. and Friday, March 16, 2007 at 6:00 p.m.  The 5K Race will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 9:00 a.m.  Running times can be reduced by the number of repetitions that are completed in the Bench Press portion.  Proceeds from the Pump N' Run will be used to purchase new equipment!  For more information, please contact Mary Brad Kelley at 410-957-9622.

Join us at the Lower Shore Family YMCA Challenge Course

Our Challenge Course program consists of a progressive series of carefully designed high impact activities to enhance specific skills related to teambuilding, leadership development, problem solving, decision-making and communication.  It provides both team and personal growth experiences for schools, clubs, religious groups, sports teams and corporate and non-profit organizations.  The adventure-challenge opportunities are presented in the form Field Games, Trust Exercises, Low Challenge Course Elements and High Challenge Course Elements.  For more information, please contact Mary Brad Kelley at the Lower Shore Family YMCA.
