HEALTH & FITNESS CENTER, GROUP EXERCISE CLASSES, PERSONAL TRAINING, & ORIENTATIONS...

Health & Fitness Center

Our air-conditioned fitness center is equipped with a selection of cardiovascular equipment including treadmills, cross-trainers, stair-steppers, upright and recumbent bicycles and rowing machines.  Strength training equipment includes self-adjusting weight machines, a cable crossover, swim machine, full set of dumbbells, incline benches, mirrors and more.  This room is not open to children 12 years and under.  Children ages 13-15 must be accompanied by an adult or have passed an orientation with a trainer.

 

Youth Exercise Policy

Youth 12-14 of age are allowed to use the Fitness Center under the following conditions.  There will be NO exceptions and if they are not followed privileges will be revoked.  Youth must be under direct supervision of parent.  Both parent and youth must go through an orientation together.  Signature of parent and youth agreeing to follow the rules of the facility and equipment guidelines is required.  Youth 14-17 years of age must use the facility equipment without a parent after they go through an orientation to cover facility rules and equipment guidelines.  After the orientation is completed, the youth will receive a sticker on their card.

 

Free Orientation for New Members

Have a member of the fitness staff demonstrate how to use the cardiovascular and strength training equipment correctly.  Please see the front desk for an orientation schedule.

 

Aerobic Studio

Our aerobic and dance studio has a mondo-athletic floor, state-of-the-art sound system, mirrors and air-conditioning.

 

Group Exercise Classes

In an effort to meet our member's scheduling and exercising needs, the Lower Shore Family YMCA offers group exercise classes both mornings and evenings during the week.  All group exercise classes are FREE to members.  Join our professionally trained staff as they take you to new, higher levels of total fitness.

Group Exercise Classes Descriptions

 

Active Older Adults

This class includes light aerobic movements combined with exercises for strength and flexibility to help maintain the ability to perform daily living activities.

Days & Times:     Monday & Wednesday     10:15-11:00 a.m.

 

Body Bar

Come try this one hour workout using body bars to strengthen and burn fat.

Days & Times:     Tuesdays     4:00-5:00 p.m.

 

Body Fit

Upbeat step aerobics, high intensity floor aerobics and strengthening-work using bars, weights and balls compose this workout.

Days & Times:     Monday & Wednesday     5:45-6:45 p.m.

 

Cardio Plus

A fun, low impact workout designed to increase metabolism and improve strength and flexibility.  Emphasis is on core stabilization.

Days & Times:     Tuesday & Thursday     9:00-10:00 a.m.

 

Indoor Group Cycling

Experience an array of hills, drills & intervals to strengthen, burn calories and improve endurance.

Days & Times:     Tuesday     6:15-7:00 p.m.

 

On the Ball

Improve flexibility, strength, coordination and balance while sculpting the body using a stability ball.

Days & Times:     Thursday     5:15-6:15 p.m.

 

Total Fitness

Increase your metabolism with this combination of aerobics and strengthening exercises.  Workout includes step and floor aerobics combined with mobility training and core stabilization using hand weights, exercise balls and bars.

Days & Times:     Monday/Wednesday/Friday     8:45-9:45 a.m.

 

Yoga

Classes will connect breath and movement in a sequence of postures increasing strength, flexibility and cardio fitness. 

Days & Times:     Monday    7:00-8:00 p.m.  or   Thursday     10:15-11:00 a.m.

Personal Training

Let a YMCA certified personal trainer teach you how to get the most out of your workouts.  Work one-on-one or bring a few friends and we'll help you reach your fitness goals.  You'll learn various exercises that build strength and endurance, reduce your body fat and improve over-all cardiovascular fitness.  Training is offered in 1-hour sessions to YMCA Members and made available by appointment only through Mary Brad Kelley.

Fitness By Design

Let a YMCA certified personal trainer set up the perfect workout plan for you.  Meet with a trainer for 2 half hour sessions and go step by step through a program set up especially for you and your fitness goals.  Please contact Mary Brad Kelley to arrange an appointment.

Women's Fitness Training

Learn new ideas on becoming more physically fit!  Fitness instruction includes proper warm up, use of cardiovascular and resistance machines and proper form and technique.  Help design your own exercise program to meet specific needs.  Call our front desk at 410-957-9622 for dates and times.

 

Walk for Fitness - Free for Members!

The Lower Shore Family YMCA's gymnasium is open for walkers on weekday mornings from 6:00-9:00 a.m. from September through May.  12 laps around the gym equals one mile.  Walk indoors during bad weather and stay healthy and fit.  Our outdoor trail is open for walking and running.  Come try it!  It winds through the woods and around our lake behind the facility.

 

Spring Walking Program

Join us for a scenic walk on our outdoor exercise trail.  Warm-up and stretches included.  This six-week program begins April 6 and is FREE for YMCA Members! 

Days & Times:  Tuesdays  4:00-4:45 p.m.  and  Fridays  10:00-10:45 a.m.

 

Belly Dancing

Have lots of fun with this great workout!  This class is taught by Diana Calenti (Bessada), an internationally acclaimed dancer.  After choreographing, teaching and performing with Egypt's National Dance Companies, Diana is here to teach Belly Dancing.  This 6-week course is taught on Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. beginning September 17 and is open to ages 13 and older.

Bill Goschen Dancing

Come join professional teacher, trainer and choreographer Bill Goschen for dance lessons.  For over  20 years Bill has specialized in teaching Swing, Cha-Ca and Hustle throughout the East Coast and is looking forward to sharing his passion for dance with the Pocomoke area.  Bill and Sue Goschen will begin teaching on Saturday from 12:00-1:00 p.m. beginning in October.  Don't miss this chance to meet them, experience first-hand how well they communicate and instruct and have some fun.  Tell your friends!  Contact Bill Goschen for more information at bgdance1@cs.com.

Dancing on the Shore Presents "Beginner Instruction to Ballroom and Latin Dancing"

Learn t dance the Waltz, Foxtrot, Swing, Rumba and Salsa in this 6-week introductory class for beginners.  In this class you will be taught the basic steps in each dance.  After this class, you will be invited to attend the Mid-Shore Family YMCA Halloween Ballroom and Latin Dance on Friday, October 30 for free.  This class is a great way to learn just enough to get you on the dance floor.  Couples and singles welcome.  Class minimum is 6; maximum is 20.  Instructor:  Nicholas Pasch

Beginner Salsa

Beginner Swing
