CHINCOTEAGUE ISLAND FAMILY YMCA

Chincoteague Family YMCA History:

In 2005, some Chincoteague Island community members met at the town office regarding the possibility of a YMCA on the Island.  A year later, a feasibility survey proved an overwhelming amount of support with 500 residents participating and a community meeting was held to gauge the level of interest for an Island YMCA with 120 residents attending.  A committee was formed and volunteers began organizing and running programs throughout the community.  The Mid-Delmarva Family YMCA, who operated branches in both Salisbury and Pocomoke, worked with the volunteers to help organize and facilitate their programs.

In 2009, Chincoteague Island Family YMCA opened the doors to a cardio-fitness facility on Maddox Blvd thanks to the efforts of the Mid-Delmarva Family YMCA, the Chincoteague Island Advisory Committee and the community.
